Even galaxies have that one friend. 🌌 Although they appear serene and unperturbed, these two galaxies are subtly warping one another through a mutual gravitational interaction that is disrupting and distorting both. I mean... we’ve all got that one friend we can be our true wacky selves with, right? Tag them in the comments. These two interacting galaxies seem to float side by side in this image captured by NASAHubble’s Advanced Camera for Surveys. The galactic duo is part of an effort to build up an archive of interesting targets for more detailed future study by the combined might of Hubble, ground-based telescopes, and NASAWebb. To build up this archive, astronomers scoured existing astronomical catalogs for a list of targets spread throughout the night sky.
