Oleksandra Matviichuk, winner of the 2022 Nobel Peace Prize for her historic work advancing human rights in Ukraine, visited Syria to witness firsthand the crimes committed against the Syrian people by the Assad regime and its Russian allies.
Together with Ukrainian colleagues, she visited Jobar, a historic neighborhood of Damascus that was systematically destroyed. Assad and his allies, including Russia, killed, tortured, and forcibly displaced hundreds of thousands of civilians, leaving the area entirely uninhabitable.
Ukraine and Syria face the same perpetrators of violence and repression.
