🗺Their guided tours take you into the furthest accessible point in the cavern that was gouged out by flowing water hundreds of years ago, and since has been the site of some extremely historic activity!
🦇Eastern Pipistrelle Bats call this cavern home as they lay dormant during the winter months before coming alive and flying around and out of the cavern to mate, giving birth to their offspring in the trees surrounding the cavern! These birds scat were once the only source of raw material used to make gunpowder, and the caves were once readily scraped for the “bat guano” that was then turned into live gunpowder!
