Newspaper History: Day 6 of 9 📰
Nestled along the Mississippi River in Minneapolis, the Nicollet Island Pavilion has stood for over a century as a testament to the city’s industrial and architectural heritage.
Built in 1893 as the William Bros. Boiler Works, the structure originally manufactured the massive boilers that powered the city’s flour mills during its rise as the “Mill City.” After decades of industrial use and near demolition, it was carefully restored in the late 20th century, transforming the historic brick building into one of the city’s most beloved event venues.
Today, the Pavilion remains an important part of the Downtown Park system. While its machinery no longer powers the mills, it now powers community hosting markets, free dance classes, and celebrations that continue to bring people together along the riverfront.
