During my interview with Bruce Bennett, he talked about one of his best photos, which captured Megan Keller scoring the overtime game-winning goal for the United States women’s national ice hockey team against Canada women’s national ice hockey team at the 2026 Winter Olympics. Hearing this helped me understand how important timing is in sports photography. I experienced something similar when I photographed the Notre Dame West Haven Green Knights vs New Cannan Rams game, where I captured New Cannan celebrating a goal while the Notre Dame players were upset, knowing their season was about to end. The moment showed how one photo can capture both celebration and disappointment at the same time.
