Whether we like to admit it or not, we all look at the box score. It’s unavoidable. No matter how big of a hoop head you are, you can’t watch every game every night.
So for some of us, it becomes a place to catch up on what we missed, to make general assumptions from there. But for others, the box score becomes a place of indefinite truth. Bad and good games are decided by the numbers you put up.
And that line of thinking has led to the age-old event of stat padding. While not inherently a bad thing, putting yourself individually above your team’s effort can come off the wrong way to fans and anyone watching the games.
But there is an art to it. Moments of pure stat padding. Players that will never be forgotten.
Don’t take this as a diss. This is appreciation for the finer things in life, at its best.
