The main technique is bouncing a warm flickering light into the space to motivate overall. For us since there was someone near the fire, we made sure to illuminate the near side of them to further motivate the light that would be coming off of the fire. We used an aputure 600x with a dish on fire effect for our ceiling bounce, and an aputure 600c with a spotlight mount from the far left to illuminate the actor.
