Here are the six standout qualities that emerged:
Safety and Inclusion: Kids don’t learn in a state of anxiety and fear. The very best teachers “establish a culture of safety and support in their classrooms,” writes Betty Ray.
Passion: It runs in their blood—the word “passion” showed up 45 times in our responses—and the best teachers ignite a similar zeal for learning in their students.
Patience: Calm amid classroom chaos, the best teachers give students the time and support they need to learn.
High Standards: Patient, yes. But life-changing teachers also know when to be demanding, pushing kids to become “better students and better humans,” writes Ray.
