“Yesterday morning, Greenpeace East Asia activists gathered outside of TSMC’s annual shareholder meeting in Taiwan, calling on the giant chipmaker company to increase its use of renewable energy. TSMC is the world’s largest chipmaker, and its clients include Apple, Microsoft, Amazon and Dell. TSMC’s semiconductors are found in everything from iPhones to laptops to cars. However, TSMC lags far behind its peers when it comes to climate action. In 2021, only 9 percent of TSMC’s electricity use came from renewable energy, compared to 100 percent for Apple and Google. At the same time, TSMC’s electricity use is rising fast, and is on track to more than double by 2030. We need TSMC to CHIP IN and commit to achieve 100% renewable energy by 2030. It’s critical to Taiwan’s net zero transition and necessary for our planet! #TSMC #greenpeace #netzero #climateemergency
