A cabin built in 1939 for a prominent Cedar Rapids businessman and his wife is now on the market in Ely.
Cedar Rapids philanthropists Howard and Margaret Hall built the cabin they called the Pal House as a weekend retreat.
Howard Hall, who built his legacy as a co-owner of Iowa Manufacturing Co., designed the Tudor-style home to reflect his love of water and as a place to relax and take in the natural beauty of what is now Palisades-Kepler State Park.
The forested, 840-acre park on the bank of the Cedar River in Linn County features stunning bluffs and cavernous ravines. The home was built on a 90-foot cliff overlooking this scenery.
