What do the most resilient teams have in common? A mix of skills and mindsets that allows them to tackle issues from multiple angles. And that’s all the more valuable in a world where volatility, uncertainty, complexity, and ambiguity are “just the norm,” says Ray Jones, PMI-ACP, PMP, a program manager at SMX Technology in San Antonio, Texas.
“There are many elements that we just don’t know,” he says. “But we can work toward making it better, toward resolving that ambiguity.”
One way for project leaders to do that: Foster always-on learning. Creating that kind of culture means team members feel empowered to bring challenges out into the open—that they have a “brave space” where they can solve problems, he says. “Ultimately, this boils down to trust, empathy, connection.”
