Twenty Iowa nonprofits and organizations will each receive thousands of dollars to boost their programs and offer more long-term support for refugees.
The state's Bureau of Refugee Services plans to pour more than $3 million into the select groups using federal money awarded by the Office of Refugee Resettlement, according to a news release.
Funds will be disbursed over the next two years, but agencies can extend the agreements every year, receiving payments for up to five years, said Mak Sućeska, state refugee coordinator for the bureau, a branch of the iowahhs.
