Somalia’s sprinter at the FISU 2023 World University Games stuck out for all the wrong reasons Monday. Nasra Ali Abukar, who represented Somalia in the women’s 100-meter race and is allegedly related to a sporting official from the African country, crossed the finish line at 21.81 seconds, nearly 10 seconds behind the heat’s winner. A video of Abukar’s performance has since gone viral, with the effort being dubbed the “slowest-ever” in a global contest, according to the Daily Mail. The Somali Athletics Federation reportedly told Somali TV that an investigation will be launched into the matter, according to Newsweek. Somali Minister for Sport, Mohamed Barre, said he plans to hold those responsible for a “misrepresentation and embarrassment” of the country, according to Somali journalist Hassan Istilla.
