After fielding hundreds of messages from fans who can’t get into his award-winning Haitian restaurant in Southeast Portland, chef Gregory Gourdet plans to test out a novel plan to put reservations directly into the hands of locals Saturday. And all it requires is for fans to line up and buy some tea. The trial run, spurred in part after Gourdet and his team spotted reservations for The Oregonian’s 2022 Restaurant of the Year being swapped for cash online, will take place on Saturday, Aug. 26 at Barnes & Morgan, the Chinatown tea shop and atelier from their friend Amir Morgan. “This for us is a way to answer what we’ve been hearing from the community in terms of people not being able to get into Kann, and wanting to do something simple and thoughtful to give people access to our reservations,” Gourdet told The Oregonian last week Starting at noon and running until 4 p.m. (or whenever reservations are gone), anyone 18 or older who buys a tea, snack or item of clothing from the cafe, 1...
