Had the pleasure of being honored this past weekend at Elmont’s third annual Juneteenth Celebration for my “contributions to the culture and example of Black Excellence.” When I got into town, I didn’t wanna Uber my way into the event, so I walked around my old neighborhood to savor those early beginnings. It was a surreal feeling walking down those same blocks I used to travel through as a kid on my way to school. My hometown, my friends, my family, and my teachers all helped cultivate this road that I’m on. They were the real building blocks. The best thing about it all is the fact that I got to celebrate this in front of my day ones and on the eve of Father’s Day. Lately, these wins taste even sweeter because my dad used to tell me that one day when he’s gone, a little ant would come and tell him that his son is doing alright and that he has nothing to worry about.
