“As I have furthered my undergraduate career here at UCSD and am in my third year, I have never been more proud of my Latine heritage and identity because it is here where I have gained such confidence and pride in my ethnic and cultural background. I like to call myself a Generation 1.5 Latina as my dad immigrated from Guatemala, and my mother is First-Gen from Mexico, so I am a mix of both beautiful worlds. During my time at UCSD, alongside other incredible spaces that have helped me develop into the powerful womxn I am today, I would like to shout out four Latine-centered environments that have become near and dear to my heart. If it were not for the support and experiences I gained as part of Lambda Theta Alpha Latin Sorority Inc., the Society of Hispanic Students in Law, commonly known as SOHIL, Ballet Folklórico La Joya de México, also widely known as BFLJDM, and the Raza Resource Centro, I definitely would not have had such valuable social knowledge as I do today.
