When Auburn and Houston meet in the Birmingham Bowl next week, it will be the reunion of two old foes from decades ago.
While the teams have only faced off six times, the series actually spans across a few of Auburn's major uniform design eras.
The first matchup came in 1956 in Auburn. Despite being the underdogs, Auburn dominated the day, winning 12-0. The following season, Auburn made the return trip to Houston and once again came away with the victory, this time by a 48-7 score. The Tigers would, of course, go on to win the 1957 national championship.
These two games came when Auburn wore helmets that only featured the traditional stripes. The navy jerseys worn in 1956 were plain without stripes, while the white tops in 1957 had the Northwestern stripes across the sleeves.
