Fired up 🔥⁣ ⁣ Test operators at NASA’s Stennis Space Center recently conducted the first hot fire test as a part of a new certification test series for new RS-25 engines. These engines will help power Space Launch System (SLS) rockets for future Artemis missions beginning with Artemis V.⁣ ⁣ During the test, operators at the Fred Haise Test Stand fired the RS-25 engine up to 111% of the power needed during an SLS launch. The test lasted over nine minutes, longer than the time necessary for an actual launch, during which four RS-25 engines help power the SLS rocket to the Moon.⁣ ⁣ Image description: A plume of white steam emerges from the test stand, a large gray structure with many pipes, staircases, and levels. An orange hue from the engine can be seen in the bottom right of the test stand. Green trees surround the structure.⁣ ⁣ Credit: NASA/Danny Nowlin⁣ ⁣ #Testing #Engines #NASA #Space #Moon
