This week for our cellar series we’re changing gears and moving north about 100 miles from Barolo to Alto Piemonte, nestled just below the Italian alps. Alto Piemonte wines are primarily based on Nebbiolo and the bottles we’ve selected are both 100% Nebbiolo. Alto Piemonte wines generally have more freshness and lift than Barolo and Barbaresco, due to the cooler climate, high acidity and lower alcohol. These are food-friendly and age-worthy wines of great complexity that still represent value. So for tonight we’ve opened two wines from Sperino, located in the wine growing region of Lessona, which is one of the oldest wine growing regions in Italy. From Paolo de Marchi and son Luca come this weeks cellar series.
