“I grew up looking for ways to be of service in times of need.”
For years, Charlie Byrd Jr. has been serving his community and country in several capacities. While serving as a logistics specialist for the U.S. Army, he signed up to volunteer with the Red Cross in Anchorage, Alaska.
“My job involved getting needed equipment from one place to another. It relied on good communication,” Charlie said. “I knew the Red Cross was involved with supporting soldiers, and I wanted to give something back to the organization that was doing this good work.”
After 12 years of service, Charlie retired from the Army and returned to civilian life to work for Amazon as a safety specialist. He ensures the facilities are in compliance with safety laws and regulations. Because Charlie has a knack for logistics and safety and enjoys giving back, he joined the SoCalRedCross’ logistics team in February.
