When 7th-grade ELA teacher Jennifer Montgomery’s class of middle schoolers in Kentucky walked a mile while carrying a jug filled with water, it brought the themes in the book they were studying, A Long Walk to Water, to life. They emerged from the activity with a stronger sense of empathy—and a solid experience of perspective-taking that will stick with them for years to come. 🙌
