Last month, ufdcp School of Architecture Professor Charlie Hailey visited Cedar Key with some of his former students to repair structures damaged by Hurricane Idalia.
What makes this emotional is these structures were designed and built as a part of architecture studios in 2016 (Earth and Sky), 2017 (Muir’s Rest), and 2018 (Drift). Overall, the structures proved their resilience but needed to be put back into place with minor repairs. As a result of their efforts, the gathering spaces are back up and running.
The ufarchitecture alums who helped were: Cameron Buck (who worked on the 2016 project at Cemetery Point Park), Kristel Bataku (who worked on the 2017 Muir's Rest project, also at Cemetery Point), Clay Martin, Caleb Generoso, and Catalina Castano Urrea.
