Evelyn Meier was in her element at Clackamette Park in October, fiddling with fallen leaves and sticks that she fashioned to look like an animal or a mathematical sign.
“I’m just literally shaving a stick with my bare hands,” said Evelyn, 9.
Interacting with nature this way might seem like an unremarkable childhood activity, but it offers a powerful alternative to traditional indoor pediatric therapy, said Evelyn’s former therapist Alice Nelson.
