I wrote a book and talked about Tourette Syndrome and Tics for the first time. What it’s like to have them. What it’s like to hide them. I was on ET Canada for 17 years and I hid them every single day. Between takes I’d try to get as many out as I could. I’d force myself to yawn so I could pull my neck a certain way - or open my eyes super wide like I was always surprised - but mostly I’d close them so I could roll my eyes into the back of my head over and over. Nobody knew. They thought I was sleepy. Which I always was, so it worked out. My tics have got better as I get older - But every day was a struggle. My tics have always been sudden, repetitive, and unwanted “flinches.” Mostly in my face, my neck, and my eyes. Especially in my eyes. When I was a kid, my brother called my Twitchy - but that’s because neither of us knew it was even a thing.
