Welcome to the Avery Research Center for African American History and Culture!📍125 Bull Street   🔘 This 3 story building constructed in 1868 served as the Avery Normal Institute for future teachers, and later as the Avery High School for Black students. 🔘 Now known as the Avery Research Center, the museum highlights Gullah Geechie culture, local and global black history, artists from the Lowcountry, South Carolina and African diaspora. 🔘 Take a guided or self-guided tour to view artifacts and documents from the extensive archival collections. 🔘 Attend in-person and hybrid events that promote the mission to collect, promote, and preserve the unique history and culture of the African diaspora. 🔘 Sit down in the Phillis Wheatley Literary and Social Club Reading Room to read through materials from black families, organizations, and social movements. 🔘 Go to 🔗 avery.cofc.edu to schedule your visit to the Avery Research Center.
