More than 200 dogs in the United States reportedly were sick this year from a mysterious respiratory illness that can sometimes develop into pneumonia and has shown resistance to antibiotics. Kurt Williams, director of the Oregon Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory at Oregon State University, has a simple message for dog owners: “Don’t panic.” But, he added, dog owners should make sure that their pets are up to date on vaccines, including those that protect against various respiratory illnesses.
