Take a look at the restored dental ward aboard the USS Yorktown! The project was spearheaded by volunteer Karl Herscher, a retired US Navy dental officer. He felt that the dental ward could use a refresh, so he got together a group of volunteers to help scrape, paint, convert the lighting to LEDs, and restore the spaces to look as good as new. Karl even reached out to MUSC’s dental college to get period-appropriate dental tools to display in each of the rooms. Museum staff worked closely with the volunteers to make the spaces look time-period appropriate and installed historic photos from the Yorktown dental department.
