It’s been an honor to report on the life of former First Lady Rosalyn Carter. Today, was the first of three days of her memorial services. Tonight, while reporting in front of the Carter Center, which she helped co-found, I got to tell the story of when I ran into The Carters while they were trick of treating with their grandchildren in Candler Park. I love the story because obviously it was so cool, but also it reminds me of my friend Matt Scoffield. It was his house who The Carters secret service car pulled up in front of that Halloween. We didn’t know what was happening, and then out popped the former president from the car, and right there next to him was Mrs. Carter. Unfortunately, Matt also passed away recently, but in telling this story I’m able to think of Matt and smile and remember how special that day was for all of us.
