The University of Pittsburgh & Vesper Energy cut the ribbon on the 20 MW Gaucho Solar farm in August 2023. Pitt is purchasing all of the renewable electricity from this 68-acre facility just 25 miles from the Pittsburgh campus, approximately ~18% of the University’s annual electricity. The second largest solar array in Southwestern Pennsylvania at the time, Gaucho Solar supports Pitt’s goals to produce or procure at least 50% renewables for its electricity by 2030 and 100% by 2037, in support of achieving carbon neutrality by 2037.
