Last month, we took Saddleback Elementary students to Casa Grande Ruins National Monument! Under the expert guidance of park rangers, our third graders delved into the world of the Ancestral Sonoran Desert people. Students toured the Casa Grande ruins and observed native plants around them. Plus, they learned how the ancestral people’s children would use a ‘mano’ and ‘metate’ to grind corn for their food! Hands-on learning took center stage as the students tried to use these tools, quickly seeing that it was quite a workout.
