“It’s hard to leave this spot because I lived here for so long. I raised my kids here.” Janie White has lived in the same home in Amory, Mississippi, for 42 years. Sadly, her home was destroyed earlier this year because of devastating tornadoes. She took shelter in her bedroom closet as the tornado approached and clutched the closet door tight out of fear that the wind would blow it open. Janie recalls the tornado being a sound “that you never want to witness.” Thankfully, Janie and her son were okay and her bedroom remained untouched, but the rest of her home was a different story. The roof had blown off and there was widespread destruction throughout her home. To help her rebuild and take her next steps toward recovery, Janie received immediate and bridge financial assistance from the Red Cross.
