#ClientStory: “Joshua’s” path into the juvenile legal system was a heartbreaking one. At a very young age, he was forced into the primary caregiver role for his mom (who had substance use issues) and younger siblings. His dedication to the safety and well-being of his family was fierce and shaped by early tragedies.
For many children in New Orleans, their stories are similar; a childhood shaped by adult responsibilities and repeated tragedies.
Our team (with the help of Joshua's mother) assembled a solid case for his early release. But far too often, children like Joshua are left unsupported and failed by the systems and structures that should be helping them grow. Read Joshua's full story on our website.
