Take the wrong lane on your way to the Hamptons and you might miss The Big Duck, a historic roadside attraction on Long Island that has some serious postmodern street cred. ⁠ ⁠ In 1931, duck farmer Martin Maurer allegedly visited a roadside coffee shop shaped like a giant coffee pot, and he thought he should do the same to advertise his ducks. Soon after, a giant cement duck, complete with two glowing red eyes made from Ford Model T tail lights, was built along Flanders Road. It stands as a symbol of postmodern architecture and throwback to a time when marketing was a bit more whimsical.
