It was a fascinating day in court as we saw Donald Trumps attorney’s argue for the first time in a Fulton County courtroom. They tried to get the election subversion indictment against him thrown out on first amendment grounds. Trump’s lead defense attorney Steve Sadow argued that when Trump began to peddle conspiracy theories and make claims of widespread voter fraud after he lost the 2020 presidential election, that at its core it was political speech protected by the first amendment. The state responded saying this isn’t about politics, it’s about crimes that were committed and laws that were broken. A judge he given defense attorneys until 12/15 to broaden their arguments. The state has until 1/2 to respond. He will likely use a written ruling in the future. Meanwhile, Trump’s attorneys said starting a trial when the DA wants in August 2024 isn’t realistic.
