December 1st celebrates the anniversary of the #AntarcticTreaty. #Onthisday in 1959, twelve nations came together to sign the historic document designating Antarctica 'a natural reserve, devoted to peace and science' in perpetuity. The entire area below 60 degrees south is protected by the Antarctic Treaty as a scientific preserve.
