A ray of sunshine falls on the Ark of Return Memorial, outside #UnitedNations Headquarters in #NYC. Designed by Rodney Leon, an American architect of Haitian descent, the Permanent Memorial to Honour the Victims of Slavery and the Transatlantic Slave Trade pays tribute to the courage of slaves, abolitionists and other unsung heroes. It's also an important reminder of the devastating and lingering consequences of the slave trade. ⠀ Around the world, as many as 50 million people are trapped today in different forms of modern slavery, such as forced labour, trafficking in persons or domestic servitude. “Slavery is both a historic horror and a contemporary outrage,” said UN Secretary-General antonioguterres on Saturday's Abolition of Slavery Day. “Let’s right historic wrongs and build a world free from the abomination of slavery,” he added, urging to fight against modern slavery in all its forms. 📸: UN Visitors Service / MF Page #StandUp4HumanRights #GlobalGoals
