Happy Feast of the Immaculate Conception
Loyola’s statue of Mary was a gift to the University in 1925. Originally intended to be placed in the Jesuit residence, the statue was too heavy for the flooring. Instead, Mary was placed on a pedestal on the Quad to face the student chapel—which was adjacent to Jenkins Hall at the time—and beyond campus, toward the heart of Baltimore City.
