Named after the world-changing chemist, the Norman Hackerman Building is home to state of the art classrooms and teaching labs for @texasscience students, faculty, and staff.
Hackerman served as president of the university from 1967-1970. During that time, President Lyndon B. Johnson appointed Hackerman to the National Science Board, which helps devise research and education programs for @nsfgov. In 1993, President Bill Clinton awarded him the National Medal of Science.
“By naming this new building after Norm Hackerman, we are forever honoring one of the most influential figures in the history of our university,” William Powers Jr., who was then president of the university, said in 2009 ahead of the building’s opening. “Dr. Hackerman was a visionary leader, a superb scientist and a compelling advocate for higher education. This building will be an enduring symbol of his legacy.”
