More than 2 million Tesla vehicles in the U.S. require a software update to add more prominent alerts to Autopilot to ensure that drivers adhere to the necessary safety requirements when using Autosteer. Wednesday's recall by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) follows a two-year investigation into several crashes that occurred while Autopilot was engaged. “In certain circumstances when Autosteer is engaged, and the driver does not maintain responsibility for vehicle operation and is unprepared to intervene as necessary or fails to recognize when Autosteer is canceled or not engaged, there may be an increased risk of a crash,” the NHTSA said in its recall notice.
