Retailers are the WORST places to buy books 2. Retailers take a minimum of 40% proceeds (Barnes and Noble takes a minimum of 50% to be added to physical shelves) 3. It takes authors years to write books! And to profit they have to increase prices to make MAYBE $2 each book 4. Shelf space is expensive. Publishers pay for shelf space to make sure their books are seen. AND 79 % of the publishing industry is white leaving Black authors without a publisher and pushing them to self publish aka no shelf space. 5.
