Asianique Savage remembers accompanying her grandmother to community rallies in Portland, marching with her through city streets and being at her side when pushing the mayor and police chief to take action. They demanded city leaders and residents pay attention to the unsolved fatal shooting of Savage’s mother, Asia Bell. Savage suffered another devastating loss, this one much more recent. Her younger brother, 20-year-old Tyz’Juan James, was shot and killed in February outside a Southeast Portland bar.
