The Kolkata Knight Riders have obliterated the record for the most expensive signing in Indian Premier League (IPL) history after acquiring Australian fast bowler Mitchell Starc at the annual IPL Auction on Tuesday.
The Knight Riders paid a whopping $2.9 million for the 33-year-old Starc. This broke the previous record that was set only hours earlier, when Starc’s compatriot Pat Cummins was purchased by Sunrisers Hyderabad for $2.5 million.
Players have to sign up for the IPL auction before setting their base price. They are then sold to the highest-bidding team.
