There was quite a moment for canisiushsfb at this past weekend’s very special Dick Gallagher Western New York High School Football Awards banquet. One of the awards that is not announced until the banquet is the John Urschel WNY Football Scholar Athlete award, named in honor of John Urschel ’09. Following a standout career at CHS, Urschel was an Academic All-American at Penn State and played for the Baltimore Ravens; he is now a member of the mathematics faculty at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. This year the award named for a Canisius Crusader went to a Canisius Crusader: Hunter Jantzi ’24. “This award means a lot to Canisius High School as well as me,” said Jantzi, a native of Orchard Park. He was presented the award by WNY Athletics.
