The next time you’re looking for a caffeine boost on your flight, maybe don’t order the coffee. In a recent TikTok, a flight attendant shared that the coffee onboard is made from water held in water tanks on planes that virtually never get cleaned. They also shared that attendants aren’t allowed to empty coffee pots down drains, and instead are supposed to dump them down the toilet (risking potential toilet water backsplash).⁠ ⁠ Different airlines might have differing rules on where and how to fill and empty coffee pots, but if you want to stay in the clear, maybe just steer clear… or use it as an excuse to order a nice cup from an airport coffee shop before you board.
