Colorado Parks and Wildlife released five gray wolves captured in Oregon onto public land in Colorado this week in an effort to reestablish a self-sustaining wolf population in the state after voters approved the initiative in 2020.
Officials plan to repeat the process until at least 10-15 wolves have been reintroduced in Colorado by mid-March 2024. Wolves can help balance ecosystems and manage the population of deer and elk, by eliminating sick members of those herds.
