These pictures tell the story of a mature Big League Buck that I named “Patches” on my very first hunt in Kansas. With it being my first sit of the trip, the rut just starting to kick off, and the whole week ahead, I decided to pass on the old warrior in hopes of a Kansas booner. But after a long week of sitting in the stand, battling unseasonably warm temperatures and high winds, the week ended with no buck in the truck. I was patient and elected to pass on several deer including a promising three year old ten point we named “Grand Slam.”
Determined to fill my buck tag, I made one last trip in the middle of December looking for a late season buck on a feeding pattern. With very little daylight pictures of “Patches,” he was a forgotten target at the spot nicknamed the “Mosquito Stand.”
