AND gray coverage + lived-in color techniques go together just fine. About half of the colors you see on my feed have a gray coverage retouch because they have over 25% gray, they love their dark base color, they want full gray coverage, and they don’t mind the maintenance of 4-8 week retouches. Here’s my approach when making the decision between gray coverage and gray blending: 1. LISTEN to the client’s needs first. 2. Present the options including the benefits and limitations of each. 3. If one option seems best for the client, let them know your opinion and explain why. 4. Once the client has made their choice, repeat the limitations and make sure they’re ok with that before you get started.
