Tulum was once considered one of the best-kept secrets in Mexico. Today, it’s described as an overplayed hipster haunt (even dubbed the “Williamsburg of Mexico”) overrun with visitors. Which, yes, there might be more tourist traps in Tulum now than years ago, but this Riviera Maya destination actually still has surprises up its sleeves for newcomers and repeat visitors alike. Embrace adventure in the area’s cenotes, natural limestone sinkholes you can swim in—from plunging off small cliffs into wide-open pools at Cenotes Casa Tortuga to swimming in a 260-mile underground river and cave system at Cenote Sac Actun. Visit the Sian Ka’an Biosphere Reserve (a UNESCO World Heritage Site), where you’ll encounter pyramids and temples in the jungle. Oh, and there are plenty of opportunities to eat like a local in Tulum Centro. Check our link in bio for more. 📸: 1. Gerard Puigmal/Moment/Getty Images 2. buuts_ha 3.
