The National Weather Service issued a very rare blizzard warning along the Cascade pass due to expected high snowfall rates and strong winds in the mountains beginning Tuesday. The weather service expects full-fledged blizzard conditions at elevations above about 3,000 feet. Strong and deep onshore flow will lead to periods of heavy snow, strong winds, and near zero visibility in the mountains, especially in exposed areas above 3,500 feet. A blizzard warning is extremely unusual in our area, and those who wish to cross the mountains should take it seriously. By the time the snow showers decrease on Wednesday, elevations above 3,000 feet will have collected 1-4 feet of snow.
