The parents of the Perry High School student who shot and killed another student and wounded others and staff members said they had "no inkling he intended the horrible violence" when they dropped him off at school last Thursday morning.
In a statement released through their attorney on Monday, Jack and Erin Butler said that on the way to school, their son Dylan, 17, "had been discussing with us of future plans and it felt like he was ready to get back to school."
Earlier Monday, Mitch Mortvedt, assistant director of the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation, said state investigators will consider the possibility Dylan may have been bullied, as some friends of his told the Associated Press.
